Decibels follow a logarithmic scale: a 10 dB drop is heard by the ear as roughly half as loud. A reduction of about 25 dB is therefore far more than a quarter less noise — it changes the feel of the room entirely.
In practice, a bedroom facing a boulevard goes from a level that wakes you at night to a background hum you stop noticing. Horns, bus brakes, early-morning trucks: all of it fades.
Not all noise behaves the same way. High-pitched sound — voices, horns, brakes, sirens — is the easiest to cut and nearly disappears. Low frequencies, like a heavy truck rumble or a passing train, are more stubborn: they drop clearly but never vanish completely. Nobody can promise total silence, and we don't.
