A window is a hole in an insulated wall. Even in good condition it lets through far more heat than the wall around it. In Quebec, where the gap between inside and outside often passes 40 °C in January, that loss shows up directly on your bill.
The panel works in two ways. First, the sealed layer of air between the glass and the acrylic slows heat transfer — still air is an excellent insulator. Second, the PVC sub-frame creates a thermal break with your existing frame, often aluminium, which conducts cold inward.
The acrylic itself insulates up to six times better than ordinary glass. In winter the inside surface stays close to room temperature instead of freezing cold; in summer the heat stays out and the air conditioning works less.
